IKORODU-OGA 2015 GRAND FINALE: Oba Shotobi, Asiwaju Basorun Honour with GCON, Merit Award

-Alhaji Ogunniyi conferred with Role Model Award

HRM Oba (Engr.) Kabir Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu and the First Secretary to Lagos State Government and Chieftain of All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun are the cynosure of all eyes at the just concluded Ikorodu-Oga 2015 Carnival as both were honoured with the two most important awards.
While Oba Sotobi received the honour of being the second in the history of Ikorodu to be conferred with Grand Commander of Order of Ikorodu, Asiwaju Basorun was conferred with Merit award at a well-attended event which took place at Ayangbure Palace, Ikorodu on Saturday 21st November, 2015.
His Excellence, Akinwunmi Ambode, the Executive Governor of Lagos State in his goodwill message at the celebration said, “The celebration of 2015 Ikorodu-Oga day is a consolidation of a new era in the history of Ikorodu Land commencing with the peaceful ascension of Kabiyesi, Oba Kabir Adwale Shotobi, Adegorushen V, to the throne of his forefathers, to continue with the tradition of purposeful leadership and communal guidance laid down by your ancestors. It is also on record that Ikorodu Division produced the best Community Development Association in Lagos State at the 2015 edition of World Community Day recently”
The Governor who was represented by Mr Kehinde Joseph while highlighting some of his administration’s achievements within short period in office also called for support and cooperation of the people for his government’s policies.
“I seek the support and cooperation of our people in Ikorodu to ensure that the implementation of our people-oriented policies and programmes impact on the lives of everyone. Obey the Las of the State; shun street trading and all activities that combine to cause traffic gridlock which only serve to waste useful time that should have been profitably utilized on other ventures” the Governor pleaded.
Otunba Adekunle Oyebola in his address at the occasion said, “IKODASS responsibility or aspiration is not limited to organizing Ikorodu-Oga Day celebration and promoting cultural values only, the Association engages itself on important community development activities such as initiating projects and executing them and also serve as a catalyst for socio-political, cultural emancipation and change in the Division”
Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, the 2015 Merit Award winner is a politician of note, distinguished banker, writer, community developer per excellence, practicing lawyer, consummate businessman and community leader.
He was Secretary to the Lagos State Government between 1979 and 1983 and later became Commissioner for Education. He later served as Chairman, Governing Council, Lagos State University (LASU) and Chairman, Lagos State Schools Management Board.
Basorun was the pioneer State Chairman of the People Democratic Party (PDP) and Lagos Delegate to the National Political Reform Conference held in Abuja in 2005. He is today, a chieftain of ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
An accomplished professional, Basorun is Fellow of Chartered Institute Bankers, London since 1977; Associate Member British Institute of Management (BIM) since 1977; Member, Nigeria Institute of Management – Chartered (NIM) since 1987 and Member, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
He is the Asiwaju of Igbogbo as well as Chairman and Managing Director of Romo Nigeria Company Limited (Manufacturers of Polythene Bags and Packaging).

Also honoured with another important award during the week-long celebration for her outstanding achievements in the education sector was Alhaja Sherifat Abiodun Ogunniyi, the Principal, Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu who was recently adjudged the Best Principal in Nigeria by the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja.
