A new twist has emerged in the controversies surrounding the chairmanship position of the Ikorodu Division Council of Obas & Chiefs as HRM Oba (Engr.) Kabir Shotibi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu and the paramount ruler of Ikorodu Division established his authority at the December 2015 meeting of the council at Ikorodu Local Government secretariat.
Following the August 2015 meeting of the Ikorodu Division Council of Obas & Chiefs, where Oba Ajibade Agoro was reported to have taken over the chairmanship claiming rotational principles which was said to have been inserted in the law that established Ikorodu Local Government, Oba Shotobi , a reliable source informed THE IMPACT that at the December 18, 2015 meeting which took place at the ikorodu Local Government Secretariat took over the mantle of the body’s leadership.
At the meeting which was summoned by Oba Shotobi through the new Ikorodu Division Council of Obas and Chiefs Secretary, Otunba Afolabi Babatunde Adeolu, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu we gathered was said to have informed the Ranodu of Imota that he will continue in the position of the chairman of the council because by virtue of government instrument and also by the virtue of Ikorodu kingdom’s position within the divisional arrangements, he is the paramount ruler of the division and also Vice Chairman, Lagos State Council of Obas & Chiefs.

The submission of Oba Agoro that he had petitioned the state government on the matter, THE IMPACT gathered failed to change the Ayangbure’s position on the matter as duly informed Ranodu that he should wait for the outcome of his petition.
The reliable source also informed that when Ayangbure eventually established his authority,he ruled that he would not entertain any deliberation on the previous minutes of the council which we gathered that the Oba considered as defective, thereby, nullifying the decisions taken at the August 2015 meeting.
It was also gathered that at the meeting, Oba Shotobi allocated functions to other Obas and chiefs towards the Ikorodu phase of One Lagos Fiesta which was successfully held at Ikorodu Town Hall.
We gathered that aside the fund allocated for the one week event by the Lagos State Government, Oba Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu also spent huge amount of money from his personal purse especially in mobilizing and creating publicity for the well-attended event.
Meanwhile, THE IMPACT gathered that Alhaji Kuti, the former Secretary, Ikorodu Division Council of Obas & Chiefs was relieved of his duty due to his role during the tussle over Ayangbure stool and the August meeting of the council.
We also reliably gathered that many bodies and individuals across the division have contacted the two traditional institutions in the division especially the two First Class monarchs to intervene in the matter and settle it in the interest of the division. One of such group is the Eminent Persons in Ikorodu Division (EPID) and a meeting has been fixed for January 2016.

It was also gathered that Oba Shotobi is receiving the supports and backing of prominent people and bodies in Ikorodu to maintain his position as the paramount ruler and chairman, Ikorodu Division Council of Obas & Chiefs. More so, that Ikorodu Central Local Government Secretariat is the seat of the divisional council.
Cross section of Ikorodu residents are also appealing to the two respected royal fathers and for quick resolution of the matter.

Attempts by our reporter to hear the position of Oba Ajibade Agoro, the Ranodu of Imota on the recent development proved abortive.
