“Ikorodu Schools Are Best In Nigeria” – Tutor-General /Permanent Secretary

-Hon. Agunbiade promises to honour schools, reveals 2016 education agenda

The Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Lagos State Barrister Margret Titilayo Solarin was full of praises and commendations for secondary schools in Ikorodu Division for their outstanding performances academically and in other areas.

She showered praises on the schools at the award dinner/ 4th edition of the Ikorodu Community Development Awards (ICDA) which was held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the ultra modern Ikorodu Town Hall, Ikorodu.

“I am proud of the schools in Ikorodu because they are the best in Nigeria. It is only in Ikorodu that you will see schools that are dominating the rest in all ramifications. All the schools are doing wonderfully well and the schools (the three nominees for ICDA 2016) to be shortlisted for the best schools awards are all deserving” said the Tutor-General.

Mrs Solarin who also commended the schools for outstanding performances in the last secondary sports festival where they carted away laurels added, “The schools (Ikorodu schools) won most of the awards in District II)

“Oriwu College has continually dominated the rest. The school is used to getting awards. It has become the tradition of the school to win laurels. In actual fact, the school principal (Alhaja Ogunniyi) is not just the best in Lagos State but also in Nigeria. It is unfortunate that she is unavoidably absence tonight. Oriwu College is a leading light” said Mrs Solarin.

“I am proud of this school (Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu) for its outstanding performances and other schools in Ikorodu” she acknowledged.

The Majority Leader, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade who could not also hide his satisfaction at the performances of schools in Ikorodu Division said that he would soon celebrate schools that have made Ikorodu proud.

“Tonight I am reinterating my pledge to celebrate schools that have been making Ikorodu proud. As you all are aware that we have been organizing programmes to encourage excellent academic, sporting and the development of other aspects of learning, we shall be celebrating our schools and students who has made Ikorodu proud as I have promised. It is either we are doing it with our yearly Best Brains Competition or with Free Computer Training. Either way, we shall be celebrating our future soon” Hon Agunbiade assured.


The Bishop Mike Okonkwo award for the Most Outstanding Secondary Schools of the year in Ikorodu is an award category that recognizes excellence in academics, social, cultural and other areas of academics. The three finalist for 2016 awards are Lagos State Senior Model College, Igbokuta and Reri Senior Secondary School, Oreta, Igbogbo.

The winner, Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu is the premier secondary school in Ikorodu which has produced many national and international personalities doing the country proud in all ramifications. The school got her groove back in recent time under the administration of its principleship of Alhaja Abiodun Sherifat Ogunniyi who is the current Best principal in Nigeria.
