Nigerians Greatest Undoing is Disregard for Scriptures, says Lagos Commissioner
The Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs and the Chief Imam, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon (Dr) Abdul-Lateef Abdul-Hakeem has attributed the disregards for the words of God as the bane of the Nigeria’s social, economic and political problems.
The Commissioner who was the guest lecturer at the 6th Hon. Sanai Agunbiade Ramadan Lecture/Iftar which took place on Friday, June 24, 2016, at the Hon. Agunbiade’s Constituency Building, Awolowo Way, Grammar School, Ikorodu; revealed this.
The theme of this year’s lecture was, “The impacts of utterances and deeds in prosperity.”
“The biggest problem confronting Nigerians is their utter disregard for the words of God. We feel that it is our duty to fend for ourselves whereas God stated clearly in his scriptures that he has provided everything for us even before were born.
“Rather than blaming the government for the socio-economic and political woes, people should return to God’s ways in conducting their affairs. Nigerians struggle for what to eat and become but all to no avail because they are ignorant of God’s promise for them. It is time we start to live in accordance to God’s will and command if we are to live well and gain eternity.”
The guest lecturer, who observed that the congregation has improved in size compare to last year, also commended the organizer, Hon. Agunbiade for making it a duty every Ramadan period to gather people together and feed them not only with foods and drinks as commanded by God but also with the scriptural verses.
“Efforts of elected lawmakers in Lagos State like Hon. Agunbiade are commendable because if not for them, many Nigerians would not have the opportunity to hear the scripture of God as commanded in the Holy Quoran
Speaking on the theme, Hon. Abdul-Lateef enjoined Muslim faithful to be mindful of their utterances.
“There is power in your words because God created everything with words. What you profess with your mouth always have effects on your life. Therefore, always speak of positive things to yourself, neigbours and your country.”
