Lawmaker, Residents Seek Improved Security
Disturbed by the incessant militant attacks on part of his constituency, Member, Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Babajimi Benson on Thursday, July 14, 2016, moved a motion on the floor of the lower chamber asking for urgent need to secure the Riverine communities bordering Lagos and Ogun State.
The lawmaker moved the motion on “Urgent Need To Secure The Riverine Communities – Ishawo, Elepe, Agbede, Igbo-Olomu, In Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Lagos State and Imuti, Elepete, Ogun Stat” due to the recent incessant attacks in the area.
The member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the lower house, moved the motion on the floor of the house yesterday and was seconded by Hon. Mukaila Kazzim representing Abeokuta North/Obafemi Owode/Odeda Federal Constituency.
Following the motion, the House of Representatives resolved to; urge the Inspector General of Police and other security agencies particularly the Army and Navy to protect lives and properties in the affected communities.
Also urge the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to carry out a fact finding mission in order to ascertain the level of damages and provide relief materials to the victims and also, mandate the Committees on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness, Defence, Police Affairs and Legislative Compliance to ensure compliance.
Meanwhile, residents of Ikorodu are calling on the government to find lasting solution to the recent upsurge of violence in Ikorodu.
