In preparation for the coronation ceremonies of the newly installed Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Emugoriade I, renovation work is set to commence on the ancient Oloja (Adeboruwa) palace.
THE IMPACT on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, saw engineers from the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, taking measurement and inspecting the palace, Oba’s palace residence (Iyewu Adeboruwa) located behind the palace and the palace environment.
Our findings revealed that major work will be carried out on the structure which was rebuilt in 2007.
A reliable source in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area, who spoke with our reporter stated that, “The members of Adeboruwa-in-Council and the Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area in conjunction with the new Oba actually appealed to the state government for the renovation of the palace before the traditional coronation but government said that the amount involved make the request a capital project which needed to be captured in the budget. The government instead agreed to do a minor rehabilitation which will involve the changing of the furniture and fittings, patching of cracked sections.”
A senior chief in the Adeboruwa palace also informed THE IMPACT that the rehabilitation work will also involve the reconstruction of the palace fence and gate.
“They (government) also agreed to reconstruct the palace fence and gate to make it more befitting” said the Chief.
THE IMPACT also gathered that container shops erected by the palace will be removed as they are distorting the aesthetic look of the palace.
Meanwhile, THE IMPACT can authoritatively report that September 22, 2016, has been set for the traditional coronation of Oba Semiudeen Kasali who will be out of the traditional place of isolation (Ipebi) on the same day.
He is expected to be crowned with the original traditional beaded crown during a private coronation ceremony inside the Osugbo Abalaye Shrine on Awolowo Way, Igbogbo, on that day.
The kabiyesi is also expected to move with members of the Osugbo (highest traditional authority in Igbogbo Traditional setting) round Igbogbo township to pay homage at important traditional quarters and shrines.
Thereafter, Oba Kasali would proceed into the main palace to mount his ancestors’ throne to fully confirms him as the successor to late Oba Johnson Fatola who joined the ancestors last year and also to herald his reign as the new Adeboruwa of igbogbo.
The coronation party is schedule for Sunday, November 26, 2016.
