Onward Movement Inducts 203 Members
-Gives thanks for successful outings in 2016, plans for eventful 2017
-Sets-up Cooperatives Society to empower members economically
It was thanksgiving galore when the General Overseer, Executives and Members of the Onward Movement of Nigeria invited families, friends and associates to celebrate with them on the successful outings of the organization in 2016, on Friday, January 6, 2017.
At the ceremony which took place at the Hon. SOB Agunbiade’s Constituency House along Awolowo Way, Ikorodu, 203 new members were also inducted as members of the social, economic cum political organization.
Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly and General Overseer/Convener of the Onward Movement,in his keynote address emphasized that the group is not a political group but a body set up to develop members economically and also make them independent and useful to the society.
His words, “In Onward, we help members detect and develop their potentials. We help them realize how they can use politics for economic freedoms by providing opportunities to make them self-reliant, productive and useful to the society.
“As part of the process in achieving our objectives, we have formed a cooperative society through which we intend to facilitate opportunities like access to loans with government and financial institutions.”
While explaining the vision, mission, aims and objectives of the movement to the new inductees, Hon. Agunbiade enjoined them to be good ambassadors of the body and also sought their total commitment, dedication and loyalty to the ideals and principles of Onward Movement.
Hon. Azeez Jimoh Olosugbo, the Onward Director-General in his welcome address took stock of the successful activities of the group in 2016 and assured the hundreds of Onward members and guests at the ceremony that 2017 would be impactful with developmental and empowerment programmes.
“We had a very successful 2016 in term of programmes and members’ advancements. Within the year under review, in collaboration with Hon. Agunbiade, we organized and empowered over 300 youths, trained over 250 in various aspects of computer pragrammes, held a successful annual general meeting which is still the talk of the town, held a feedback programme at Ikorodu town hall and Stakeholders’ meeting among many others.
“Though, like other years, 2017 will be challenging but we are going to surmount it and make it prosperous. We are outlining our programmes for the year and members of the public should be rest assured that we will not fail.
“Today, we shall be inducting 203 new members into Onward Movement of Nigeria, after satisfying laid down requirements for membership. These new inductees are expected to add strength and power to the over 600 registered members that we have already. In due course, we shall be grouping you into various arms of the movement – Onward men, women, ladies and utilities”,he stated.
As an organization that attached importance to professionalism and talents, many young academics, big players in Ikorodu music/entertainment industry, upcoming artistes among others,were invited to the ceremony . Among them were Qdot, Ikorodu-born artiste that is making waves in the Nigerian music industry, Afo, a popular comedian, Mr Olubode Oserinde, the founder/director, Fanafillit Integrated Concept, Meyrah, an upcoming artiste, Super Dee, another upcoming song writer/artiste, Kehinde Adelabu, a doctorate student, Arinola Okeowo, a Mass Communication expert and emerging Estate professional, Azeez Lamina, the publisher of Waves magazine, Peju Akinyemi, founder of the Ikorodu Online-Radio among many others.
Among eminent persons that graced the ceremony were Alhaji Rilwan Jinadu, Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Ikorodu, Alhaji Olakitan, Chairman, APC, Ikorodu West, Otunba Waliu Daini, Chairman, NURTW, Ikorodu branch, Mr Akeem Bello, a school principal, Mr Saliu, Principal, Lagos State Model College, Igbokuta, Mr Agunbiade, senior teacher with Ikorodu Technical College.
