Ikorodu Community Awards: Nominations Declare For 5th Edition

Nominations have been declared in various categories of the annual Ikorodu Community Development Awards (ICDA) by the awards Screening Circuit.

Mr Abraham ‘Peju Akinyemi, the Chairman of the Screening Circuit of the Ikorodu Community Developments Awards (ICDA), while speaking during the press conference to herald the 5th edition of the award which has been tagged as ‘flagship of grassroots development in Nigeria’, on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at the Conference hall of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, 4, Idowu Fatoki Street, Oke-Oriya, Ikorodu, stated that nominations into various categories is opened till midnight of Sunday, March 5, 2017.

“Nominations into various categories are hereby declared open and it will remain open till midnight of Sunday, March 5, 2017.

“Because of the seriousness we attached to the process, we are expecting members of the community, groups, community development associations, professional bodies, youth organizations, socio-cultural groups, traditional institutions, media, market associations and religious bodies to be involved in the nominations by sending in names of worthy individuals that have been offering selfless services to the community”, said Mr Akinyemi.

Mr Austin Awulonu, Chairman, ICDA Board of Trustees, while also speaking at the briefing, encouraged residents of Ikorodu to nominate deserving men and women who have within the past year impacted lives for good.”

He also thanked The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM) for continually supporting ICDA since inception.

The Area Pastor of TREM, Liberty Centre, Ikorodu, Revd. Mike Egwu, in his own speech said, “ICDA is one of the ways the Church gives back to the community since 2013 and by the grace of God, we will continue to do so because the gospel of Jesus brings out the best in everyone”

The award categories for 2017 include, Hon. S.O.B Agunbiade for the Most Outstanding CDA, Bishop Mike Okonkwo Award for the Most Outstanding Secondary School of the year in Ikorodu, RHODA Youth Award for the Student with Best WASSCE Result in Ikorodu, Market of the year and Garage of the year.

Others are, Most Outstanding Social Service Contribution, Most Outstanding Sports Contribution of the year, most Outstanding Arts Contribution of the year and Most Outstanding Primary Health Centre of the year.

Since the inception of the awards in 2013, various individuals and organizations had won the awards. Some of these winners are Hon. SOB Agunbiade, Miss Azeezat Oshoala, Alhaji Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello), Bolowotan FC, Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, Lajo CDA, Elepe CDA, Oriwu Sun, Qdot,among others.
