UEC College Celebrates Founder’s Day, Proprietor’s Golden Jubilee Birthday With Lecture

Indeed, it was an ultimate celebration on Friday, February 3, 2017, at the premises of the Ultimate Education Concept (UEC) College in Ikorodu when the school marked the 4th edition of its Founder’s Day as well as Golden Jubilee birthday of its proprietor, Otunba (Hon.) Saheed Oladapo Ibikunle.
At the occasion chaired by Hon. (Barr.) Olanrewaju Sunmi Odesanya, Commissioner 1, Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission, Barr. Saheed Kolawole Shillings delivered the keynote lecture on leadership.
Twenty-one students of the school were also presented with academic, leadership and personality awards. Among the students that made the honour list were Haliyat Hassan (Overall Best student in Junior School 1), Tolulope Bukola (Overall Best student in Junior School 2), Udoh Samson (Overall Best Student in Senior School 1) and Eniola Ibikunle (Best Student in WASSCE 2016).
In his welcome address, Otunba Ibikunle stated that his plan is to continue celebrating his birthday every February 3 with lecture on leadership to encourage the youths.
“I want a day like this to keep occurring while I am alive. I want every third of February to be a day set aside for ‘Leadership lecture and the Founder’s Day in our school since our strategic plan is to develop future leaders. The day will just be for the future leaders, but those that would influence the society and these are the leaders of tomorrow.”
He challenged parents present to instill good attitudes in their wards. “They need to learn good attitude also and not only academics excellence alone” he said.
He shared his future plan to have a bigger and well organized yearly lecture on leadership every February 3 as a way of impacting on the society and develop purposeful leaders.
Barr. Saheed Shillings in his lecture enjoined the students of UEC College to be thinking leaders who will help in developing the society.
“It is only a thinking leader that can think of initiating an enduring programme like this lecture to mark his birthday and also capable of making it to happened.
‘As students, you have to start thinking big because through that, you can be a good leader. Leadership is not about age or wealth, but the ability to develop the zeal in yourself to achieve against any obstacle.
He also enjoined them to give whatever sacrifice necessary to achieve good education which he described as a major factor in leadership.
Hon. Olanrewaju Sunmi Odesanya described the celebrant as intellectually grounded and a spirited public officer.
He commended the school orchestral and drama group for what he described as commendable performances and donated cash sum of N50,000 to the groups while also promising to buy musical instrument to compliment those the school has.
Among other eminent individuals that attended the were Mr Ayodeji Iginla, former Rector Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH, Barr. Kayode Alabi, State Chairman, APGA Dr Abiodun Fatai, Lecturer in the Political Science department, Lagos State University (LASU), Comrade Japheth Odesanya and Barr. Kamal Ayeni among others.
