Former Youth Leader, Journalist Declares Intention For Ikorodu North Chairmanship

-Constitutes campaign team, launched social media platforms to  reach electorate

Alhaji Olalekan Murisiku, JP, Chairmanship Aspirant in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area.

Contest for the Chairmanship of Ikorodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) is getting interesting as a former youth leader in the council, Mr Shamsedeen Olalekan Murisku, JP, joined the race.

Since declaring for the race, Murisku,the face of Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area’s politics,has embarked on strategic moves to achieve his ambition of becoming the next Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA. He has been traversing the nooks and crannies  of the area to meet with party executives (both at local government and ward levels), market men and women, youths, artisans, students, professionals and community developers among others to intimate them on his mission .

He is the first aspirant to constitute and also made open his campaign team for proper prosecution of his campaign agendas.Among the members of his campaign team are Mr. Eniola Adedoyin – Director General , Hon Adeoye Abiona – Deputy DG, Mr Lookman Adebowale – Leader and Mr Abdulwahab Handu – Director, ICT & Online

Others are Mr Alli Ajayi – Leader , Comr Adebisi M. M – Leader , Mr Mukhtar Yusuf – Director, Media & Publicity , Comr Adedolapo Ejire – Director, Mobilization (Students), Hon Ismail Adekoya – Director of Finance , Comr Olaolu Onifade – Secretary , Mrs Joy Nwosu-Balogun – Director, Women Affairs , Mrs Ann Oshilaja – Asst Secretary, Hon. Kehinde Ojerinde – Director, Mobilization (Youths), Mr Walid O. Shogbade – Executive Member  and Mr. Olalekan Murisiku.

Also, he has launched a website where his personal information can be accessed and get feedback from the people. Aside this, he has also been interacting with the electorate on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and others.

Shamsedeen Olalekan  Murisku, JP was born on August 21, 1978 into the family of Murisiku Tijani of Ijomu. His mother, Mrs Oluyemi Murisiku (nee Ajose of blessed memory) was a member of Ajose Taiwo Oyedun family in Itundegun and Segun-lubu family of Itunsokun, Isele in Ikorodu Council Area of Lagos State.

He had his elementary education at Holy Trinity Primary School, Ikorodu ,between 1983 and 1989 and thereafter studied at Ikorodu Grammar School and Ipakodo Grammar School, Ikorodu. He proceeded to Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, AOCOED, Otto/Ijanikin, Lagos ,where he studied English Language/ Political Science between 2003 and 2006. He graduated from the department of English Language Education at University of Ado-Ekiti, now Ekiti State University in the year 2015.

 

His quest for knowledge made him enrolled for Journalism Course at the Federal Radio Corporation Training School, now National Broadcast Academy, Lagos in 2007 ,for Professional Basic Certificate Course in Journalism. In 2009, he returned to the institution for Professional Intermediate Certificate Course also in Journalism.

He is a certified teacher, Member, Association of Childhood Educators Practitioners, ACEP, Lagos Chapter, Member, League of Journalists, Ikorodu, Fellow of The Torch Bearers, TTB, AOCOED and a student member of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

Olalekan’s entire working career revolves round the press. As a young Secondary School Leaver, he worked with Masters Press and Publishers where he gathered his publishing experience as the Company Executive Representative. He was the Editor-in-Chief of AOCOED TODAY, a tabloid newspaper produced by the Students Union Government, AdeniranOgunsanya College of Education and Ikorodu Constituency One Megaphone Newspaper.

In 2006, he founded and published the defunct Campus Treasures newspaper that focused on Students’ development in the South-West Nigeria. He also edited for Ikorodu Herald newspaper besides publishing online.

He taught briefly at The Guidance International School, Owutu, Ikorodu and Lagos State Government Junior Secondary School, Ijanikin, Lagos. As a teacher and activist, he has liberated many minds through life changing programmes he facilitated.

In 2007, as a Freelance Journalist, precisely on 5th of October, he joined the service of Choice 103.5fm, (now Radio One) three months after the Station was established to cover Ikorodu Division as a Correspondent. He covered Ikorodu Division during the 2015 general elections for Radio One, Bond Fm, Metro Fm and reported live to the Radio Nigeria Mandate Studio in Abuja. Olalekan anchored festivals special packaged, ‘Odun Alayo’ on Choice 103.5fm. He also contributes to the weekly news magazine programme “Democracy in Action”. He is a regular feature on the station breakfast show, a news magazine programme tagged Dateline Lagos on Radio One 103.5fm.

JP, as fondly called by his admirers, is a social commentator, an advocate of Social Justice, and a youth development strategist who has special interest in children literature and documentary productions. Besides, JP had equally served religiously as Financial Secretary, General Secretary and even President in more than five Students and Youth Organizations including the Lagos State Youth Parliament, (2nd Assembly), National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ikorodu North Chapter, Odogunyan Ambassadors, an organization he founded in 2006 to mention a few.

Olalekan Murisiku, the host of numerous Seminars including “Academy of Wealth” and “The Youth Assembly” ,performed pilgrimage to the holy land in the year 2016.

 

Between the year 2010 and 2014, Olalekan Murisiku was appointed and served as the Director, Media and Publicity to a prominent member of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon SOB Agunbiade, the current Majority Leader of the Assembly. He discharged this assignment meritoriously.

 

Similarly, a member of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode cabinet and the Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr Abdulhakeem Abdullateef on assumption of Office appointed Olalekan Murisiku as his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity in the year 2015.

 

He has received numerous awards, commendations and honours for his impact in the secular arenas and in Journalism practice. The versatile JP is one of the new breeds without greed of Ikorodu Division. He is happily married and blessed with children.
