The total strike declared by the unions of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, has taken another turn as the Students Union Government (SUG) is set to lead thousands of students of the embattled school on protest to the Governor’s Office at Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, tomorrow.

In a release on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, the SUG of the school stated that they resolved to embark on the protest when they discovered that there is no end in sight to the trade dispute between the school management and the unions.

“After weeks of consultations by the Students Union Government with relevant Stakeholders, it is very clear now that the strike won’t end anytime soon as both parties (the State Government and the Staff Unions of LASPOTECH) are not ready to shift grounds for each other”, the release stated.

“Having taken into considerations, the agitations of the entire students of our great Polytechnic of Excellence, the need to maintain and sustain our ever stable Academic Calendar, and the need to secure our own future, the Comr. Lawal Dauda led Students’ Union Government is left with no choice than to let the State Government know that we are sick and tired of this ongoing crisis. As a result of this, a peaceful protest shall be staged tomorrow( Thursday ,10th May ,2017 )at the State house, Alausa, Ikeja, our demand is very simple ,”WE WANT TO RESUME.”

The statement also stated that the protest is not in support of any of the parties involved in the dispute: “Greatest Nigerian Students, please ,be aware that we are not supporting any of the parties involved in the ongoing crisis. Our demand is for the general interest of us all.”

“We hereby call upon all students who are passionate about returning to school to join this peaceful protest tomorrow as buses would be available to convey students to Alausa at both Ikorodu and Isolo campuses around 8:00am.”
