Top Schools In Nigeria: Oriwu College, Igbokuta Model College, Keme Balogun Senior College Are Top Schools In Nigeria
-Sagab, HOMAT, Babington, other private schools in Ikorodu also show class.
Ikorodu division continues its tradition of academic excellence with outstanding performances by some of its public and private schools which have been rated among top school in the federation.
Three of the public secondary schools in the division were selected and rated highly among the 1000 top schools in Nigeria which included both public and private schools.
While Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikoodu, is rated 56th, Lagos State Model College, Igbokuta in Imota Local Council Development Area, is rated 67th and Keme Balogun Senior College, Ibeshe in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area, is rated 106th position among the top schools in the country.
Ojota Senior Secondary, Ojota, Lagos ,which is ranked 107th, made the list of top schools rated within Education District II, Ministry of Education, Lagos State.
The schools were rated based on their academic performances since 2012.
According to Africa Brands Review, the organizers of the Africa Top School Award, the schools were certified for 2017 awards for consistency in excellent performance in external examinations, excellent performance of their students in qualifying examinations to higher institutions and excellent performance of their students that recently graduated from higher institutions.
The four schools were hosted by the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Mr Olaniyi Yinka Gbemi in his office at Maryland on Friday, May 12, 2017.
While appreciating the schools for the feat, Mr Gbemi also enjoined them not to rest on their oars: “This is the first of its kind in the history of District II, where four of our schools are being adjudged as top schools not only in Lagos State but the country as a whole in terms of performances in external examinations and monitoring of the schools products in tertiary institutions.
“There are thousands of public and private schools across the federation and it is no mean task to emerged as top schools. In Lagos State alone, there are about 400 public secondary schools and as you know, the private secondary schools are in thousands.
“My arrival has brought academic excellence. It was the same when I was at District III which also qualified me to be adjudged as best Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary.”
“It is not the time to rest on your oars yet. I expect you to sustain and improve on this feat. In the same manner, I expect more schools in my district to make the list in the next rating.”
Also speaking, Mrs Abiodun Sherifat Ogunniyi, Principal, Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, who was recently adjudged the best Principal in Nigeria, stated: “God has been the major motivator. I also want to thank the Lagos State Government and the District for providing enabling environment for our students and staff to operate successfully.”
“My staff, both teaching and non teaching, has been great as well as my students too. We greatly appreciate the government of Lagos State and our old students for given the school a facelift and for also encouraging, supporting and motivating us to greatness.”
“We give our students the best they could get anywhere. They can access the internet at anytime and there is team work among our staff. We all work together to build the school and achieve academic excellence” ,she said thankfully.
Other Principals at the ceremony were Mr Saliu Jimi Alani, Principal, Lagos State Model College, Igbokuta, Mrs Alebiosu Regina, Principal, Keme Balogun Senior College, Ibeshe, and Mrs Odimayomi Cecilia Olayinka of Ojota Senior Secondary School, Ojota. There were also directors of the district in attendance.

At the 2017 Africa Top Schools Award ceremony held on Thursday, May 11, 2017, private schools in the division also proved their mettles among top rated schools in Lagos and Nigeria.
In the rating, Sagab College located at Solomade, Ikorodu Local Government Area,is rated number one among public and private schools in Lagos State, while NEPA Staff Secondary School, Egbin in Ijede Local Council Development Area, is rated 14th and Jane-Nath College, Ipakodo in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area,rated 20th.
Others like HOMAT Pivotal College, Owutu in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area, is rated 39th, Babington Macaulay Seminary, Ikorodu, is rated 84th and New Vision College, Ikorodu, rated 97th.
