Yoruba Language Tutors Honour Anibaba, Oduguwa, NUT Chairman, Others

Alhaji Wakiludeen ‘Lemmy’ Anibaba, former Principal, Lagos State Model College, Igbokuta, Comrade Lateef Oduguwa, the immediate past Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Ikorodu Chapter,and Alhaji Shakirudeen Olorunimbe, a foremost Yoruba Language teacher, were among eminent teachers honoured with honourary titles and awards by the Egbe Akomolede Ati Asa Yoruba (Association of Yoruba Language Tutors), Ikorodu chapter, at a ceremony held on Tuesday, May 30,2017.
While the duo of Alhaji Anibaba and Comrade Oduguwa were installed as ‘Baba Egbe’ and ‘Agbaakin’ Akomolede Ati Asa Yoruba respectively, Alhaji Olorunimbe was honoured with an award for his outstanding contributions to the development of Yoruba Language at the special ceremony which was held at the Ikorodu Teachers’ House, located within the premises of Methodist and Oga Primary Schools, Ikorodu.
Others who also bagged titles were Alhaji Abdu-Jelili Hasbunahu (Afasagbesinga) Dr (Mrs) Oluyemi Ropitan (Iya egbe) , Mrs Taiwo Esther Osinfolarinwa (Yeye Oge), Mrs Mojisola Tijani (Yeye Agbasaga) and Alhaji Owominiyi Fakoya (Afesingbasaga).
Mrs Oluwale Grace Taiwo, in her lecture titled, “Ose ti olaju n se lori Asa Yoruba” (Negative consequences of modernization on Yoruba Culture), called for the preservation of Yoruba language and culture.
She advocated for the speaking of Yoruba language at homes and in schools.
Also at the ceremony,Mr Taiwo Oduloye, Education Secretary, Local Government Education Authority, Ikorodu, Comrade Oluwafemi Fakolade, the newly elected NUT Chairman, Ikorodu Chapter, Mrs Cecilia Odimayomi,Mr Babarinwa Bukola and Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary among others,were honoured with awards for their contributions to the development of Yoruba Language and culture.
